Historic Sports Car Race Changes Coming to Sebring

Officials at HSR have indicated that any schedule changes will not take effect until next year.

“The Classic 12 Pistons and Props runs this year as it always has warbirds and all,” said HSR Public Relations Director Adam Saal. “However, in 2025 the December Pistons and Props event will be an “HSR Sebring Historics” race – which will be a championship series weekend.”

It’s part of a major schedule realignment by HSR.

“This new Sebring event is a tremendous addition to our annual schedule,” said Sebring International Raceway Senior Director of Marketing, Communications, and Business Development John Story. “Fans have repeatedly asked us for the historics to be included in the 12 Hour schedule, but this actually will be better. We’ll have a full weekend of vintage and historic cars and a full slate of races.”

Although the track traditionally has had events in March – and even the weekend before the 12 Hours, track officials look at the change as another step forward. They will have a built-in audience, as fans begin lining up in the field across from Gate 4 beginning the first of March. Literally hundreds of cars, trucks, busses, motorhomes and travel trailers are parked across the street by the time Race Week rolls around.

However, for the hopeful that envision bringing their setups in for the HSR Classic 12, then staying on for the Mobil 1 12 Hours, it’s not to be.

“We will be clearing the property by that Sunday night, to prepare for our 12 Hour guests,” said Sebring International Raceway President and General Manager Wayne Estes.

Next year will be a busy one for the home of America’s Oldest Sports Car Endurance Race. Beginning in February is a jam-packed schedule of racing action. It will begin with the SCCA South Atlantic Road Racing Championship, followed by the SVRA’s season opener – The Sebring Speed Tour. Among other things, that will include the Prototype Sprint Series Association East, the SVRA Sprint Series and the ever-popular Trans-Am Championship.

It all looks to increase the more than $600-million dollar impact the track has on the local economy each year.
