The Inauguration
There were several standing ovations during Trump’s inaugural address, the first when he proclaimed “…the Golden Age of America begins now.”

Describing January 20 as “Liberation Day,” Trump first talked about the challenges of the past four years, then began to outline his program for lowering prices and reducing government regulations on citizens and businesses. He reiterated his promise to “Drill Baby Drill,” saying that allowing the use of America’s oil reserves would be a cornerstone of the economy.
Trump also talked about recouping the Panama Canal – noting that Panama was in violation of their treaty, allowing the Chinese to run the canal. He also talked about how American shipping – including the United States Navy – had been treated unfairly.
He declared a number of National Emergencies. He first declared a national energy emergency to facilitate oil drilling and production. Trump also announced a national emerrgency on our southern border, where the President pledged to send US troops to ensure national sovereignty.
Trump pledged that America would “meet every crisis with dignity, power and strength,” saying that we “will not forget our God.”
Other parts of the speech included a revocation of the Green New Deal, an effort to restore free speech, establish a Department of Government Efficiency, renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America,’ reestablishing Mount McKinley and to “plant the Stars & Stripes on the planet Mars.”
“If we work together there’s nothing we can’t do,” he said. “In America, the impossible of what we do best.”
Fellowship
During the days previous to the Inauguration, social media was littered with posts asking if there were watching parties in various areas. It appeared that Highlands County was one of the few places that had an organized event. It not only was an opportunity to watch history in the making, but it also provided an opportunity for like minded citizens to get together and discuss the issues of the day.

No party would be complete without food and Islandview did not disappoint. Dozens of attendees sat at 8-top tables to enjoy lunch from a special menu while watching the Inauguration and the surrounding festivities at the lunchtime event.

Conclusion
There was a good crowd for the event, and those who took time out to gather, break bread and celebrate seemed all to have had a good time.
