Lake Placid has become the unwitting center of a controversy involving the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to reports, a FEMA employee identified as Marn’i D. Washington has been dismissed. That, following charges that she instructed her disaster relief team to avoid any houses that had “advertisements for Trump.” Meaning President-Elect Donald Trump.
At the time, they were working the Lake Placid area in the wake of Hurricane Milton in late October and early November.
Testimony from some of the team members allege that the 38-year-old Washington’s instructions caused workers to avoid as many as 20 homes with Trump signage. That left residents without the benefit of federal disaster aid.
