Medal of Honor Day Observed in Sebring

On Tuesday, March 25th at 11:00 AM, local citizens, veterans and public officials will gather to honor the 24 Florida’s recipients of the Florida Medal of Honor with a wreath-laying ceremony and the tolling of the bell. It will be held at the Florida Medal of Honor Museum and Visitors’ Center at 442 South Eucalyptus Street, in downtown Sebring.

The occasion is Medal of Honor Day, which is observed each March 25.

Each year, Medal of Honor Recipients gather at Arlington National Cemetery on this date for one of the most significant and solemn traditions marking the occasion. During this annual ceremony, they will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, paying tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

This act of remembrance serves not only to honor those who gave their lives but also as a powerful symbol of the enduring legacy of courage, sacrifice, and valor that continues to shape our nation’s freedom. As one of the most meaningful activations on National Medal of Honor Day, this tradition reinforces the deep respect and gratitude we owe to those who have served, while ensuring their extraordinary sacrifices are never forgotten.

In Sebring, there will be a “tolling of the bell,” with one peal for each of the two dozen Medal of Honor Recipients in the Sunshine State. The bell was obtained from the nearby Sea Services Museum.

This will be the first official event at the facility since it was dedicated this past December 12.

There also will be a “lighting of the flames,” for each of the six values underpinning the center. You can find more about that by clicking here.
