Substitute Teacher Quits at Highlands School Board Meeting

At their last meeting, substitute teacher William Webber came before the School Board of Highlands County, alleging that he had been demeaned and removed from teaching middle schools, after accusations by a number of students.

Charges he adamantly denied. Webber also told the board that to his knowledge, no investigation had been performed into the matter. As a former police sergeant, Webber said he was familiar with the investigative process and questioned why it was not done in his case.

“I take this seriously, but somebody here doesn’t take it seriously,” he told the board. “My character was ripped from me.”

Webber said that some of the students in his classroom had been particularly disruptive.
