But it’s not all fun and pranks. As Stewart moves in to his new residence, the head of the Home Owners’ Association is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Then, shortly thereafter, a second resident turns up dead.
So, Stewart, Suzy and his new rag-tag group of friends decide to begin their own investigation. Faced with constant road blocks from park security and local law enforcement, Stewart shows skills that hint that there may be more to his past than first thought. The unorthodox process this gang uses to unravel the mystery keeps one guessing and turning the pages.
There are various sub-plots that weave through the pages that both are humorous and help to flush out the characters as well as inject a bit of romance. There are enough lively characters and unfinished side plots for a sequel – or perhaps two.
“The cast has been bugging me about writing a follow-up and I’m already working on it,” Courtney said.
Known as a “cozy snowbird comedy mystery,” Courtney has woven a tale that causes chuckles in some places and is laugh out loud funny in others.
It makes for a great summer read for anyone, and is the perfect fodder for established book clubs that are looking for a bit lighter fare for summer. This would also be a great book for starting a book club as it sparks a good deal of discussion and analyzation of the plot, the characters, and the style that brings them all together.
