A Lake Placid police cruiser has been involved in a fatal traffic accident in Hardee County shortly after 11:00 Monday night. Florida Highway Patrol officials say the cruiser was northbound on US 17, just south of Hancock road near Wauchula , when the accident occurred. Reportedly, he was driving in the outside lane when a pedestrian stepped in front of the moving vehicle.
The victim, described only as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reportedly the cruiser was transporting an individual from Hardee to a facility in Polk County. Neither the driver of the cruiser nor the passenger were identified except that both were males, in their mid-30s and are from Lake Placid. Neither of them were injured.
