The Sebring High School Young Americans for Freedom is launching a “Stand With Israel” project.
In commemoration of last year’s October 7 attack on Israel, they are going to place some 1,200 Israeli flags in a common area of the Sebring High School campus.
Reportedly, the idea has been in the works since last spring. It apparently sprung from other YAF college chapters that were doing the projects on their campuses to combat antisemitism. It quickly gained momentum and the “Stand With Israel Project” has spread around many college and high school campuses.
The flags were purchased from the local YAF treasury. They are scheduled to be placed where students will be able to view them as they disembark from busses and sit in the nearby lunch courtyard. The idea is to raise awareness of students about the importance of America’s relationship with Israel.
The display is set to run on Monday, October 7
Buttons and pins for students will be provided, and the admonition to “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6) will be at the YAF Table.
It was on October 7 of last year, Hamas and several other Palestinian nationalist militant groups launched coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into the Gaza Envelope of southern Israel. It was the first such invasion of Israeli territory since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. The attack coincided with the Jewish religious holiday Simchat Torah. It has been described as the single deadliest day for the Jewish nation since the Holocaust.
As of Monday, at least 97 people taken hostage in the October 7 attack are believed to still be in Gaza. Around a third of those – or at least 33 people – Israeli officials believe to be dead.
Additionally, Hamas also holds two other hostages, one taken in 2014 and the other in 2015, as well as the bodies of two slain Israeli soldiers.
It remains unclear whether parents, or members of the public will be able to see the YAF display at Sebring High School.
